MEET THE SING’S SONG LEADERS

Lydia Lane Stout

Lydia Lane Stout is the Founding Artistic Director of common pulse. She received her masters degree in choral conducting from Michigan State University and her undergraduate degree in choral conducting from Oberlin College. Between degrees, Lydia joined Chicago Children’s Choir as a conductor. While in Chicago, she founded and directed common pulse and the Admiral Chorus, an ensemble for singers living at The Admiral at the Lake. In addition to her conducting positions, Lydia sang with Peregrine Vocal Ensemble and Wicker Park Choral Singers. Outside of common pulse, Lydia can be found directing youth choirs at Glenview Community Church, teaching music lessons, singing in mirabai, and cultivating community

 
 

Liza Calisesi Maiden

Liza Calisesi Maidens is the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She holds a DMA in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University. While at MSU, she served as a Graduate Fellow for the Residential College for Arts and Humanities, which contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning in the areas of the arts, humanities, and community engagement. Her own research centers around the expansion of the choral canon. Dr. Calisesi Maidens serves as a board member for Illinois-ACDA and mirabai, a professional ensemble led by Sandra Snow to enhance the artistic expectations of women’s choral singing.

Mark Bilyeu

Before joining the staff of St. Paul & the Redeemer in 2022, Mark Bilyeu spent ten years in Minneapolis, where he served as the Director of Music at Calvin Presbyterian Church, Artistic Director of the South Metro Chorale, Associate Conductor of the Calliope Women's Chorus, and was the founding Artistic Director of Source Song Festival. Trained as a pianist who specializes in working with singers, he holds degrees from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and the University of Minnesota. He has a deep love for joyful community music-making, the Muppets, and his many houseplants.
